Mary Virginia McIntosh Connors, age 87, died at home of natural causes on September 2, 2010.
Virginia was born in Salt Lake City, Utah on August 11, 1923, to John F. and Alice Edna Ahlstrom McIntosh. She married Charles Edward Connors in Ely, Nevada on September 13, 1941. Charles preceded her in death on May 1, 2008.
Virginia grew up and spent her life on Salt Lake's Westside. She attended West High School, was a member of the LDS Church, and enjoyed spending time with her extended family in Rush Valley. Virginia and Charles made a home in Salt Lake where they supported their four sons and other youth in numerous activities. At one time she was den mother to 35 boys. She was actively involved in PTA, spent 18 years as a leader/volunteer in youth baseball, and was an avid bowler. As their family grew, Virginia and Charles found great pleasure in fishing, camping, and rock-hounding. Virginia loved to pack up the car and trailer and head out. She fondly recalled road trips to nearly every state in the nation.
Virginia's kitchen was a gathering place for family and friends who would always find good cooking and good company there. Virginia loved to work with her hands, whether dicing up a meal, crafting jewelry, or creating the hand-made miniature Christmas village featured in the newspaper long before store-bought villages became popular.
Virginia is survived by her sons, Charles Raymond (Linda) of Bountiful, UT, Michael William, Sandy, UT, and Jeffrey Lynn (Kathy) of Salt Lake City, UT; 6 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren; sister, Marcella Ranson, West Valley City, UT; and beloved cousins, nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, son, Kenneth Edward, her parents, and brothers, J. LaVell McIntosh and William V. McIntosh.
Graveside services will be held Tuesday, September 7, 2010 at 11:30 at the Salt Lake City Cemetery, 4th Avenue & âN' Street.
Friends and family may visit Monday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Larkin Mortuary, 260 East South Temple, and Tuesday from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. prior to services.
